Plans to open and operate a new-build property in Washington DC have been announced by Virgin Hotels, the lifestyle hotel division of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group. It will be the brand’s first foothold in the US capital.
Hotel group CEO Raul Leal said the hotel, in the emerging Union Market area, would offer guests “an energetic, lifestyle experience unlike anything currently offered in the city as part of the continued evolution and growth of the Union Market area”.
He added: “It’s a great time to be in Washington DC, which is in the midst of a cultural renaissance, further establishing itself as a diverse global city that we feel will embrace the Virgin Hotel ethos and lifestyle.”
The property is being built by D B Lee Development and Construction. President Dennis B. Lee said: “The Union Market area is representative of the renaissance with significant and eclectic development embracing the historical fabric of the market and community.
“We feel that Virgin Hotel will not only become a hub of activity in Union Market, but will also greatly enhance the cultural growth of the city, potentially becoming an epicentre of creative spirit.”
